Why does this site exist?
Making a website, I couldn't shake the feeling that this was just a high-effort form of shouting into the void. So why go through with it?
At some point in the last decade an Internet presence became a seemingly mandatory part of modern life, yet after years spent hopping between forums and platforms there's nothing I can point to and say "that's me." Instead bits and pieces are scattered across a dozen websites with no shared context.
Somehow social media never caught on with me, so looking at them from the outside, what is the merit? The profile? That's just a promotional blurb. Sharing your most meaningful thoughts? It must fit within 280 characters, then gradually vanish down a feed where no future visitors will ever find it. There is no built-up context, just a churn of content. Should a company get to decide the parts of me that are worth seeing? (And it doesn't help that my prior experience was burnout with a kind of mathematical precision.)
Therefore, it had to be a website, or nothing at all.
